Meet the 2023 Westminster Group Winners

More than 2,500 dogs within over 200 breeds competed for the coveted title of Best in Show at the 147th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina® Pro Plan®. Conformation took place at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, on May 8-9 as part of Westminster Week.

After two days of breed competition and two days of group competition, seven dogs moved forward to Best in Show competition on May 9 to be crowned top dog. Dogs competed to decide the Best of Breed winner that would move on to the Group, which chooses one winner from the breeds to go on to Best in Show.

The Hound Group, Toy Group, Non-Sporting Group, and Herding Group Winners were chosen on Monday night, and the Sporting Group, Working Group, and Terrier Group Winners were chosen before Best in Show on Tuesday night.

Here are the 2023 Group Winners from each breed group.

Hound Group

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen “Buddy Holly” won first place in the Hound Group, moving on to Best in Show. Last year’s Best in Show Winner at Westminster was Bloodhound “Trumpet,” also from the Hound Group.

Toy Group

Pekingese “Rummie” won first place in the Toy Group, moving on to represent the group and breed in Best in Show.

Non-Sporting Group

French Bulldog “Winston” won first place in the Non-Sporting Group, moving on to Best in Show. Winston won Best in Show at the 2022 AKC National Championship.

Herding Group

Australian Shepherd “Ribbon” won first place in the Herding Group, moving on to represent the group and breed in Best in Show.

Sporting Group

English Setter “Cider” won first place in the Sporting Group, moving on to represent the group and breed in Best in Show.

English Setter: GCHB CH Winchester’s An Apple A Day JH

Working Group

Giant Schnauzer “Monty” won first place in the Working Group, moving on to represent the group and breed in Best in Show.

Giant Schanuzer: GCH CH Hearthmore’s Wintergreen Mountain RN CGC TKN

Terrier Group

American Staffordshire Terrier “Trouble” won first place in the Terrier Group, moving on to represent the group and breed in Best in Show.
